One of the good things about last year was that, in the throes of the global battle with COVID-19, I had regular weekly online hangouts with Andy Vitale. We’d met at UXPA Cleveland during their World Usability Day event.
Andy is all about design, and I’m all about governance. So we thought that we would try and bring those two disciplines together and write a book about digital safety (which we are still doing). But we were talking — a lot. So we decided to start a podcast, Surfacing. We’ll be having conversations with folks about all manner of things — but mostly about design, digital spaces, inclusivity, and how to govern for good.
In the first episode of Surfacing, our guest is Whitney Quesenbery talking about election ballot design. I was delighted that Whitney could be our inaugural guest. She provided me with tremendous support and tough love when I wrote Managing Chaos and, as you’ll hear in the interview, illuminates some of the design dynamics that impacted the USA’s last presidential election. I hope you’ll join Andy and me every couple of weeks as we release new episodes.
